Civilization IV: Der vierte Teil der Civologie richtet sich an versierte Welteneroberer und Neulinge gleichermaßen. Zum ersten Mal kommt eine 3D-Engine zum Einsatz, was der Übersichtlichkeit dient. Umfangreiche Multiplayer- und Moddingoptionen sowie der neu gestaltete Technologiebaum und das ausgewogene Kampfsystem fesseln monatelang an den PC.
Warlords Das erste Add-on erweitert das Hauptprogramm "Civilization IV" um sechs neue Zivilisationen mitsamt deren historischen Oberhäuptern, die auf dem Schlachtfeld eine besondere Rolle spielen. Szenarien wie die Vereinigung des antiken China oder die Feldzüge Alexanders des Großen bieten ausreichend neue Herausforderungen für Rundenstrategieveteranen.
Beyond The Sword: Die zweite Erweiterung konzentriert sich besonders auf die Epoche nach der Erfindung des Schießpulvers und bietet viele neue Einheiten, Gebäude und Technologien sowie 16 neue Staatsoberhäupter für die neuartigen und alten Zivilisationen. Ganz neu ist die Kapitalgesellschaft, in die der Spieler Rohstoffe investiert, um sich diverse Vorteile zu verschaffen. Weiter spielt die "Spionage" eine große Rolle durch die sich strategische und militärische Vorteile sichern lassen. Am Ende einer Partie ist man in der Neuzeit angekommen, bei der die besiedelung neuer Planeten von nöten ist und auf der Erde mit "Mech's" und anderen futuristischen Waffen gekämpft wird.
